Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

WOW! This place was great from the moment we walked in! Friendly server, awesome food, good price, excellent seating! Can it get any better? Ummm... No. Go here, trust me. You won't be sorry. People who reviewed this place poorly, I have one word to describe you: Pretentious. I have been to a TON of Mexican restaurants, and this is one of the best, hands down.

We always make a point to attend Pablo's for lunch whilst in Fernandina Beach. One of our staples (aside from House Margaritas on the rocks) is the Avocado Locos w grilled chicken salad. It was very pleasing once again the dressing and combination of fresh greens a perfect combination. We also tried the steak taco salad, and the pablano soup (watch out, it is spicy). More than we could eat so boxed it up for lunch the next day. Not quite as busy as usual but it was an early dinner on a brisk cold evening for Florida. Server very attentive and friendly.

Really like Pablo's. They have some different dishes you don't find in other places which sets it apart. I can't say I ever had a better Mexican meal on island. They offer half pitchers of Margaritas and service is usually very prompt and attentive. Reading one review in particular I have to wonder...why go to a good Mexican restaurant like Pablo's if you want soup and a taco salad? Go to Taco Bell. I have NEVER ordered soup in a Mexican restaurant and never would. I can make my own soup. I cannot make a great meal like the one's I have at Pablo's. They have a nice, large outdoor seating area and the building is pretty cool.

So, it's really sad when you would rather have a frozen Amy's Lasagna than your $14 salad! Ok where to begin. This isn't our first uneventful meal at this restaurant but, I talked the hubs into trying it again! First of all the salsa was filled with raw onions...it was overwhelming! I mean I'm glad it's not out of a container but man oh man that is all you could taste! So, we ordered two fajita salads. My hubs came out right but no cheese. What restaurant makes a salad without cheese? So, mine was almost correct except no tomatoes but, I was thankful because my hubs tomatoes were hot like stewed tomatoes...gross! Also, the salads were rather small! Not like a dinner salad should be! Also, no dressing. When I asked for dressing I got packets...what the what???!!! I felt like I was in a hospital cafeteria! Wow! A local Mexican joint that can't whip up a fresh southwest vinaigrette. I don't get that at all! Oh and after my husband finished his taco salad he found his retried beans...they were on bottom. Yes under the tort bowl. So, we asked to speak to a manager and the waiter (that did not speak or understand my form of English 10 minutes earlier) understand my complaints perfectly! Hmm interesting! So, the young manager came over and she was very sweet however.....this is how she explained it away! - The salsa ...well that is because they make it daily! - The salad dressing packets well...that is because no one ever ask for it and it goes bad quickly! - The beans well...that is to hold the taco salad on the plate! So, how the heck do you get them into your salad? On a positive note the steak was tender and seasoned well. That is all I ate! She did not charge me for my salad however, when I told her I was still hungry she could have cared less. I would have loved a cup of soup or something! Unreal! Take a look at the pics and decide for yourself! I think I am done! The one star is for good steak!

Looking at the other reviews I wasn't completely convinced Pablo's would be a good choice. But having never visited Fernandina Beach I before happened to park over by it so that's where I stopped in. I waited at the hostess station for a bit before a young lady came over and asked how many. I said "One tonight" and though there were empty tables and spots at the bar, she said there would be a five minute wait and asked for my phone number. I gave it to her and waited. And waited. And waited. She said I could walk around and she'd call. I window shopped, walked slowly about five blocks to another restaurant where I've had an appetizer, dinner, and two drinks and am waiting for my check but my phone has yet to ring. Maybe Pablo's is okay if you have multiple people in your party but they certainly had more open tables than the other places I walked by in the area. I won't try them again.
(1)Alex C.
Honestly I had maybe way too many coronas while eating there but I recall the steak was so tender it melted in my freaking mouth. I don't recall what it was called but God did it taste good also the queso dip and chips I ate 3 bowls of chips killing that queso dip. I tried to take a good photo but it came out a little blurry I was kinda drunk. But take my word for it and eat at this place if you want really good Mexican food.
(5)Tricia W.
Excellent quality for the price. Everything is fresh. This is not a mystery meat #11 restaurant so the prices are a little more but still very reasonable. Hub and I had the street tacos - yum! Salsa and chips - yum! Queso dip was standard but still yum! Skinny organic margaritas - excellente. Daughter with good taste at age 6 liked the burger, chips and queso. I was planning to give this place 5 stars BEFORE the owner came over to make sure all was well and BEFORE I was complimented by the very nice hostess. The waiter was a sweetie too. We enjoyed the staff and the food. We would have stayed for a few more had it been adults only. I'm still scratching my head over the people who said this place was pricey.
(5)Jason W.
Best Mexican food I've had in Florida! I was worried about the service since other reviewers did not review it well. But our server was amazing and I was very impressed! Will come again next time I'm in town!
(5)Erika C.
Wow. Where should I even begin? My family and I were visiting Amelia Island for my 25th birthday and decided to check out this spot our second night in town. Can you say heaven?!? This is the best Mexican food we have ever tasted. Carla, our server was such a sweetheart. She gave great recommendations and the margaritas were killer! My mother and her boyfriend are from Boston and my boyfriend and I are living in Chicago and we all agreed that this place was just amazing. We originally had reservations at an Italian restaurant for my birthday later in the week, but couldn't pass up Pablo's so we decided to come back for a second time! We had Carla again as our waitress and it was the best 25th birthday experience! I am still dreaming of the crab dip appetizer. Can't wait to come back next year! If you are visiting Amelia Island and looking for some good Mexican food stop here! Bravo Pablo!
(5)Irene D.
Nice outside seating. Kitchen was a little slow but the food was good. If you like a little spice try the Tijuana Tacos. Very good. Very friendly waitstaff.
(4)Kelli M.
Really good service. Generous portions. Great drinks. Everyone had a great time and and a great meal. We will definitely go back.
(4)Burton A.
Ate lunch there one afternoon. Friendly wait staff and bussers but the bartender wasn't all that interested or attentive to me. I wasn't all that hungry so I ordered the avocado salad with a side of habanero salsa. The food was excellent and it left me wanting more. It was overall a positive dining experience and I'd definitely go back to try some of their other dishes.
(4)Dawn M.
We had a great lunch at Pablos, loved their Nachos Chorizo, margaritas, guacamole and queso along with the chips. Will definitely go back if in the area!
(5)Timothy C.
Really 3.5 stars. Food is solid, if not spectacular, service is friendly and efficient, atmosphere is bar-basic. Our group had the seafood enchiladas (not bad, but the seafood kind of got lost in the corn tortillas), pork tacos (good) and the flaming chorizo / queso starter (very good). The margaritas were excellent! Not a bad option for downtown Fernandina beach.
(3)Brian C.
Great food but it took way too long to get our food! Maybe they think the alcohol and free chips will make me lose track of time?
(3)Robert L.
I have visited the times in the past 18 months and IMO this was the best experience of the three. I ordered the Street Tacos, the meat was very flavorful and coupled with the salsa verde were incredibly delicious. I also had a very flavorful red sangria. Based on this visit i will continue to visit Pablo ' s whenever i am in the area.
(4)Ryan H.
I really enjoyed this place. Great food and prices. The decor is nice as well. Go out back to sit on their patio on a nice day. The back patio needs some better decor as it looks like it has been neglected. Good Mexican spot in this area. Check it out.
(4)Cordell S.
The staff was polite, and the cheese dip is good. The space is a little crowded, but they sat us immediately at 6:30pm. The food was alright, I had veggie fajitas and they were fine. Another person at our table thought the chicken was bad on her entree, and they took it off the bill. The food is also a little pricey for the quality and portion size. In the end, it was an expected Mexican meal in a beach town...not great, but not bad.
(3)Pam F.
I'd like to love this restaurant but it's only like. Food is good with traditional fajita's, taco's, etc. plus some specialty dishes. Not too creative. It's ok, not excellent. The organic Margarita is definitely excellent. Small selection of bottled beer. A few wine choices. Go for the Margarita! Outside seating is nice but bright lights and loud music don't create an intimate atmosphere. Our service tonight was really bad. Room for improvement
(3)Jennifer P.
Most authentic mexican in Atlanta! We love going here over the weekend for our "fajita fix," and it's such a great value.
(5)Michael H.
Bicycling around the old town and perusing art galleries and lunch time came upon us and even passed us up before we knew it. So we decided to give Cafe Karibo a break (see review) for a sampling of something different. Before you could say Timicuan or David Yulee or Fort Clinch (I know that one's right) we found ourselves seated at a generously proportioned round table at Pablos. In another tick we had before us a bloody mary and a marguerita the size of a child's pool. Alongside were warm tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole. It was as welcoming and warming harbor from the unseasonable cold and soon that delicious buzz began to settle in. I munched an olive from my beverage as we passed the time of day with the affable and attentive waitress. Why not just go ahead and order the tortilla soup, one for each Jen and me? It arrived in perfect time and was followed not long after by our entrees. For Jen it was a vegetable burrito with beans and rice on the side. I opted for vegetable fajitas with beans, rice and mo guaco. I just love it when that platter arrives sizzling and crackling. My next drink was club soda with lime as I was already pleasingly plotzed. Oh this food went down a treat and we didn't leave hungry, I can assure you. Ambience is casual and entire staff very congenial. Well did n't we have just a perfectly ducky time, Jen and I?! Give 'er faux big stars, she earned every one! Our next trip to Fernandina Beach will find us at Pablo's. Side note - the Marguerita was $10. We thought this steep, and I'm sure it is, but value was what we are looking at here, not price. It was big and delicious and Jen deemed it worth the pesos.
(4)James M.
Street tacos were delicious. Ample chips and salsa for the table. Server was knowledgable and attentive. Portions were more than enough. Food came out fast, a plus for diners with kids. Pablo himself came by the table and talked to us, very nice guy. 4 stars instead of 5 because prices are a little too high.
(4)Terrence G.
Fantastic food and to top off the evening someone paid for my meal! God bless you to the anonymous individual.
(5)Leslie K.
We were looking for a place to have lunch with the kids (let's be honest....mama needed a drink!). Tried the special of the day (mixed margarita & sangria). The street tacos were awesome! Will definitely try this place again.
(4)Debbi D.
Nice setting, nice decor. Great organic margarita. Flavorless chips, salsa, while fresh, it lacks spice. Street tacos good. Not the best Mexican food I have ever had, but I would return for drinks.
(3)Kamil B.
The food, service, and ambience are decent, nothing you can't get at a typical Americanized Mexican restaurant. What stuck out for me the most were the prices; which are about double what you would expect at a similar establishment.
(3)Tressa L.
I don't even know where to begin. Given the location, pricey food comes with the territory. However when I pay $16 for ONE chorizo chile relleno , I expect better than what I received. It was very small, there was no chorizo , sauce or cheese...just spicy beef and maybe a sprinkle of cheese on the top. It wasn't even cooked well. No batter, just baked. We had a party of 11 people and most of the food was disappointing across the board. The salsa reminded me of tomato paste with raw garlic and the rice and beans was something I could have thrown together in my kitchen. The portions were incredibly small with respect to other authentic Mexican restaurants, and I just can't emphasize BLAND enough. The queso, flaming queso/beans/beef pot and margaritas were very yummy, but really, how hard is that to mess up. So in a nut shell - way too expensive, mediocre food, had pizza later that night to satisfy our bellies. Save your money and go to a real Mexican restaurant that isn't on the overpriced tourist strip of Fernandina Beach.
(2)Brian M.
Disappointing. Interesting decor, nice looking menu, great patio, but the food is really underwhelming--especially for the price. Most entrees are around $13, which should indicate much higher quality food than we received. We had three entrees: Chili Colorado ($17), Quesadilla ($13), and Chimichanga ($13). The Chili Colorado was flavorful but salty, as were the small portions or rice and beans that came with it. The Quesadilla was small and cold, and came with no side items! Incredibly disappointing. The Chimichanga was probably the best of the three, but it wasn't any better than average. We should have known better when the chips arrived. These were hard, cold, and unsalted. The salsa was bland. Not sure where, but you can surely find better Mexican somewhere else on Amelia Island.
(1)l b.
5-stars for their skinny organic margaritas! This translates to lime juice instead of a mix, and their homemade tequila. The patio out back is great! Nice atmosphere with the walls built around and great nighttime lighting. Don't go here for dinner. Go for margaritas!!
(5)Bryan S.
Food was good but it was the wrong food, gave us wring order did not realize that until the first bite. Food was still good service not so much not only wrong order but very slow service.
(3)Jeff S.
Food was excellent and very authentic Mexican. I enjoyed the Street Tacos which had tender shredded brisket beef and tangy tomatillo salsa. Mt wife had the chicken quesadilla and was also delicious. The service was fast and efficient as well.
(4)Deb C.
I hate to "torch" this place, but here goes . . . we stopped in on Thursday at 5pm for a pre-boating snack and drink. To their credit, they did offer my favorite tequila, which is difficult to find in restaurants. We were, however, promptly told that the frozen margarita machine wouldn't be ready for a while so my husband ordered a top-shelf margarita. The bartender acted as if we were troubling him - and we were the only ones at the bar. We ordered the "Nachos Regulares" with ground beef and when it came, it looked like dog food. We weren't aware at the time, but we should have been thankful that the plate was so small ($13) because we BOTH got sick. Save yourselves . . .
(1)Debbie I.
Amazingly fresh and tasty Mexican food. This is the real deal. Nothing frozen or from a can. Salsa is fresh and chunky. Chips are right thickness and not greasy. We had chorizo nachos which were amazingly low on chorizo grease. Yum. I had carne asada tacos which were very tasty. My husband had chile Colorado which he said might be the best ever. Here is the problem with this place. The margaritas are excellent. After a couple you end up doing shots of Pablo's secret tequila. ( tequila w honey?). Then next thing you know you are posing for a picture w the pirate next door. We will be back in the summer amigos!
(5)Cary B.
After walking around the historic district the family was famished. Pablo's hit the spot. It's pricier than Pepper's around the corner but we wanted something more local. The service was great and everything tasted wonderful. The steak fajitas, pollo loco, and cheese quesadilla were all delicious. The guacamole dip was also fresh and yummy. I wouldn't have any problems recommending Pablo's to friends.
(4)Yesenia A.
I LOVED IT!!!!! The mole enchiladas were delicious. Best Mexican restaurant in Florida, in my opinion.
(5)Ronnetta W.
my husband and I went here on a whim one night, and I'm so glad we did. upon entering, we were both surprised by the large size of the place. it looks much smaller from the street. the menu items were unique but not as extensive as your typical Mexican place. that didn't matter, because the dishes we got were very well executed and tasted great! we both had the special margarita. it was huge! and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. my husband had the chimichanga, and I had the stuffed poblano. soooo good. prices were a bit high but not outrageous. the bar was a nice size, and the service was really good. we will definitely go back. the unique dishes and family atmosphere set this place apart from most Mexican places we've been. check it out!
(4)Steven H.
I would give zero stars if I could. We came here expecting a great meal and were told that they closed 15 minutes early because they were "working on something on the roof." That's strange since there were plenty of tables eating. Why lie to a customer!!!!????
(1)Joey V.
Meh. Nothing special in the way of food. My chimichanga burrito was on the small side and the fry session was too short. Nothing crunchy about it. Atmosphere was chill and the location was unassuming.
(3)S M.
Hands down, best Margarita on the island. And while the food may not be up to California or Tex-Mex standards, it is still better than any other Mexican place around here. Plus a nice owner and very prompt and friendly service. Give it a try and support a local family business.
(3)J S.
Pablo's is in an old brick building in downtown Fernandina Beach. The food is not Tex-Mex but is authentic food from central Mexico. The food is fresh and if you don't see what you want the kitchen will accommodate your request. The Azteca Margarita is excellent and the Mojito is the best on the island. All that said, the staff is the best reason to return. Most are family members and you will soon feel like one of the family.
(5)Leena C.
I ran into this restaurant to seek shelter from a sudden summer rain, and ordered the shrimp and scallop chimichanga. The food was tasty but a bit pricey for what it was, and the size was enough for my meal but definitely small for the price. The service was okay. Nothing bad, but nothing too memorable either.
(3)John S.
Our first dining experience was great! Karen took great care of us and her menu suggestions were perfect! The food was so fresh and was some of the best mexican food we have ever had. I highly recommend Pablo's for its great atmosphere, great customer service and incredible food!
(5)John B.
I don't know who wrote all of those glowing reviews, wich suckered me in to trying this place, but they weren't correct. The patio is lovely, the food was abysmal. Cold, tasteless, and bland. My burrito had THREE tiny strips of meat ! I would have complained but I didn't see the waiter again till he brought the check. Must be some sort of tourist trap ,do not waste your money folks.
(1)Wendi W.
This is my third visit within 24 hours. I first popped in yesterday for a cocktail and a snack. I ordered the organic Margarita and one Street Taco which Fernando was kind enough to give me a la carte. The margarita was awesome. Fresh juices...no GMO corn syrup mix here! The street taco was so good and fresh. This is no ordinary Mexican restaurant. This is fresh mex. You will not be disappointed. Wonderful food. Highest quality. I had the shrimp taco on my second visit. It was wonderful too. I can honestly say that I have never had a bigger buzz off one margarita in my entire life...and I've been working hard at this for years. Do not miss. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Dane S.
Terrific Mexican food. Excellent fish tacos: the chipotle tartar sauce has a kick. The guacamole is outstanding; quest and salsa and chips all tasty. Good service. Very pleasant courtyard.
(5)Briana P.
This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! Great atmosphere and even better food. The chips and salsa are fresh and taste great. I had the taco salad and it is wonderful! Perfect portions for my mom and I. Try it! I can't wait to go back!
(5)KJ N.
Don't waste your time. Menu prices don't match bill. Check your bill. Don't ask Staff for suggestions they don't know. Food needs more flavor.
(1)Jay S.
The food is very good! The shrimp were fresh and everything was great. However, it was quite busy and our waiter seemed like he was running around like crazy to keep up. They could probably use a few extra hands on the floor. I would definitely eat here again.
(4)Ryan D.
Great portions, good food!, and amazing service! The waiter called us by name, and ended the meal thanking us and shaking our hands! Exceptionally good service! Great atmosphere!
(5)Scott T.
This place as a great atmosphere. We took are four kids and had a great time. The top shelf margaritas are great. The chips and salsa are delicious. I had the quesadilla. Someone else had the street tacos and fajitas. All was good. We will be back.
(4)Amanda M.
The fresh salsa is great. Service was excellent, portions were plentiful, meals were AMAZING. Everything about this place was top notch. I will definitely be back. If its a nice day sit outside in the back! Try the pork burrito or the chimichanga!
(5)Alex G.
Well kept, clean and colorful Mexican restaurant. Service was prompt and helpful. Waiter knew the menu and made helpful suggestions. Guacamole was very tasty and bright green - fresh - but served on an unnecessary bed of mixed lettuce that made it difficult to eat. Note to manager: forget the silly lettuce and serve in a plain bowl. For entrees, we had the chili Colorado - pork chunks in spices, served with beans, rice and tortillas - which was top notch. Tender lean pork in a Mexican "gravy" - delicious. Shrimp fajitas platter was chock full of perfectly grilled, large shrimp that were super tasty. Steak and chicken fajitas also well made with lean, tender cuts of meat. They have both corn and flour tortillas. Good place for solid Mexican cuisine.
(4)Christina S.
Really good margaritas. We got a pitcher. They were great. We also had chips, salsa, and guacamole which were not that good. This is a small place, not much going on for entertainment, etc, but worth a stop for a drink.
(3)Jackie B.
Back again... Still quite possibly the best margaritas I've had, and the guac is still delish!
(5)Johan F.
Like Brian M says the food is Underwhelming . I was hungry and had the day's special Burrito Marina. A burrito of which the waitress could only tell me it was a seafood with cheese burrito. The food was served on a oval plate which had rice, the burrito(not a two handed one) some lettuce and 1/3 (they scraped the rotten part off it)of an avocado. After deducing that one of the seafoods were clams ( the other remains a mystery to this day). The mouth feel of this cheese with seafood concoction was like biting into bread batter, now you have the food in your mouth and there is no other way then to either spit or swallow the sticky mess. I did not taste any mexican spices and the salsa they gave me for the tortilla chips was used to make the food more palatable so I could at least ingest it. Afterwards I tried talking to the owner about the quality of his food but he wasn't interested stating that I was the only one complaining about the food and that other people "loved it". Now since reading the other Yelpers I know better. AVOID unless you're into bland pseudo Mexican food.

I was in Amelia Island for only a few days. We ventured to the downtown area once to have lunch. Decided a margarita would hit the spot on a hot day so walked into Pablo's. Glad we did! The top shelf margs were perfect! We ordered queso dip and that was yummy too. For entree, I ordered the first lunch combo and they agreed to sub soft bean taco for a hard chicken or beef one. Food was on point and service was friendly too!
(4)Jen L.
This is such a great choice at the beach! Yummy fresh food with amazingly attentive service!
(5)Josh B.
Pablo's...... oh, Pablo's. I went to Pablo's for the first time on my first trip to Amelia Island three years ago and have been back every time i've visited. Its in an old building in the historic downtown area of the island near the Crab Trap and Palace Saloon. We always sit on the awesome patio behind the place. Its nice and quiet and a great place for groups. I've sampled a good many things from the menu, from taquitos to grilled chicken and everything has been great. Their chips are thicker than most Mexican pl,aces and their salsa is a bit thicker but both are great. As i said above, each time we have visited we've had a party of 8 or more and the service has always been great. Drinks are strong, beers are cold, and tea is sweet. I'm not sure what else you could really ask for in a great food spot.
(4)Christy K.
Excellent service. We split the special of the night, ribeye fajitas, and they were very good. Had the Pablo's dip which was amazing. Highly recommend!
(5)Ryan D.
I love the building Pablo's is in. Old rustic style building with a very nice outside seating. I love sitting outside on a nice cool day. Pablo's have very good organic margaritas, and a very good taco salad. I come back for them!
(4)Stephen A.
Excellent service, fresh quick and filling. Had Fajitas and Quesadillas. Quesadillas has too much queso cheese for my liking...overall would recommend.
(4)John D.
4.5 star rating Annette and I went here several times a month ago. We always have the fresh organic margaritas which are fantastic. All the combo plates are good and Jose always gives us free shots of tequila because were regulars.
(4)Kim R.
'Top shelf' margarita is amazing! Great service, authentic Mexican. Will definitely be back!
(4)Heather K.
We stopped in just for a drink and had queso/ chips and margaritas. Was pretty standard fare. Slightly more expensive than our local favorite at home.
(3)Kara N.
I was recently on a business trip in Fernandina and went out for dinner and drinks one night to Pablo's... We went back a couple of days later for lunch because it was so good and affordable! The food was phenomenal. The burritos were good, taco salads yummy, margaritas/pina coladas, and sangria delicious, POLLO YMCA ROCKED MY WORLD! I would undoubtedly go back to Pablo's next time I'm down there and order the Pollo YMCA. Their queso was delicious and the pollo YMCA came with a generous helping of it making this... My favorite menu item!
(5)Aimee R.
We tried Pablo's on an early Monday evening with our three small children. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. We started out with the top shelf margaritas, which were generously portioned and amazing. I grew up in Austin, so I know a good 'rita when I taste one. The white cheese queso appetizer was tasty and not runny. The salsa was also fresh and had a nice flavor. For my entree, I chose the mole enchiladas, as not many restaurants offer mole around here. Their mole sauce was incredible; in fact, it was maybe the best mole sauce I have ever tasted! Even the standard rice and refried beans were delicious (especially since the refried beans had a nice layer of white cheese melted on top). The ambience of the restaurant was good with a nice set-up and apparently an outdoor courtyard as well. This would be a fun place to go on a date or eat with the whole family. I noticed a lot of locals eating there, which is a sign of a good restaurant. Our children enjoyed their kids' meals, and my husband thought his tacos al carbon were delicious. We have eaten at a lot of restaurants on and off the island, and this is now one of our favorites. I will definitely be back for their delicious mole enchiladas and refreshing margaritas!
(5)Briit R.
Great Mexican. We had one of the flat steak entrees with a mole sauce. Very good
(4)Robin S.
Stopped in for lunch on a hot day recently. Nice space, but the food is standard Americanized Mexican. Not bad, but not very interesting. Salsa is good but mild. We asked for their spicier version, but it was never delivered. I'd consider it again if I'm in town - probably over the Pepper's chain restaurant up the road.
(2)Beth H.
Great service and great piña coladas. The guacamole was also good and fresh. There is an outdoor seating area in the back courtyard which has great ambience.
(4)David F.
I had a craving for better than normal Mexican and so I took the wife and I to Pablo's' in Fernandina Beach (downtown). The ambiance inside the restuarant is very cool - it looks like a real Mexican restaurant. We were seated right away. The chips-and-salsa guy was a little slow getting it out to us, but they have decent salsa. It is not that hot, which is fine for me, and they put cilantro leaves in the salsa, so that gave it a distinct taste. I ordered the Chimichanga with seafood and it turned out to be really good. I drank 2 Negra Modelas, with a lime, also. My wife ordered the Chicken Flautas. She really liked them. You get a fair amount of food for the price. We passed on dessert....maybe next time. By the time we left, the bar was beginning to get busy, and it looked like a fun place to hang out, with plenty of space to sit or stand.

Amazingly delicious meal and moderate prices. Delicious mole and heaping seafood fajitas. Nice cocktail list and ambiance as well. Definitely two thumbs up, would come back ASAP!

Spent 4 nights in FB in January. Did not have a bad meal anywhere. We ate at Pablo's twice. I love Mexican food, and they did a fine fine job. Very friendly place and it seemed like a lot of locals favored it for a casual night out. Not a bad idea.

Friendly server. Pretty atmosphere. Very tasty margarita garnished with orange and blue salt :) In addition, the carnitas plate was muy delicioso!!! Want to come back with family & friends.

Great margaritas!! We found out about Pablos by looking at Yelp reviews while we were vacationing during Spring Break. Customer service was great along with the food. Our family enjoys mexican food and this was one of the best mexican restaurants we have ever visited!!

Overall really solid, IMO. Here were our thoughts: We were seated promptly, and served very quickly and efficiently. The sweet tea was the best sweat tea I had during our Amelia getaway. The chips were decent enough, the salsa very mild but hearty, almost like a gazpacho. Even though it was very mild, we still liked it. The prices are mostly in the 11-14 range for meals, basically reasonable and probably $4 less than the same type meal in Charleston or Savannah. The food: solid, not earthshatteringly great or poor. On a par with most Mexican places. We had chicken tamales and shrimp enchiladas. The latter came with roasted veggies that I recognized from the Costco freezer case (they *were* roasted, but not blazing hot all the way through). I don't really hold this against them b/c I've noticed that most places serve frozen veggies. Here's what we really loved: this place filled up and was easily the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. People came in and did a lot of hooting and screaming at each other. It must be a Fernandina thing. We have a screaming 2 yo who was put to shame and rendered invisible by the jet-enginelike roar in this place. Wife and I could still converse, but wow was it loud. Thus, if you have an infant or toddler, this could be a very good choice for you (and they split a cheese quesadilla). So for us, this was an overall very nice dining experience.

Note: I ate here in late summer 2011. Hopefully service has improved since. I would've given this a two star rating based on their food alone. It wasn't bad, but was ultimately forgettable and lacked any real spice. Overpriced for what it is, but it's a beach town... Service was so terrible that I have no desire to ever return here. It wasn't an overly busy night when I dined here and it took them a minimum of an hour after ordering to bring our plates. My glass also spent most of the night empty.

Very friendly wait staff, even if they were Amelia-slow. Slightly better than average Mexican food, with a pretty plain vanilla menu of standard fare. Quite spendy for what it is, but that seems to be par for the course locally.

Hooray for Pablo's! We took the kids up to Fernandina to do a little sight seeing and touristy stuff and got hungry. Nothing except for sandwiches and hot dog places was open. Now granted it was around 3:30pm but come on! Pablo's decor is very colorful upon walking in and very spacious. The outdoor garden is pretty too. Their food is main stream Mexican, but it is good and the portions are definitely large enough to be split. We had the Steak Fajitas and they were tasty. The Cheese Quesadilla was huge and tasty as well. My other daughter got the Chicken Noodle soup and was not impressed with the Mexican spin on the old standby. All in all, we will go back.

Was disappointed. Food didn't have much flavor. Neat atmosphere.

We stopped here for a quick dinner on a recent all-girls weekend getaway, after my Grandmother voiced her craving for Mexican, which I never turn down! I was happy to be seated right away on a Thursday evening around 8pm and greeted by our friendly waitress. After we ordered drinks & were perusing the menu, I expected to have a basket of warm chips & a dish of salsa to tide us over until our entrees arrived. I was a bit put off when they didn't deliver the chips & dip until after our orders were placed... Half the reason I go to Mexican restaurants is the chips & salsa that greet me, along with my waitress. However, I can overlook my chips & dip disappointment. They were actually quote delicious, as were our Margaritas. As for the entrees, we were very pleased. Two of the ladies in our party ordered the Chimichanga and the others ordered the chicken nachos & the enchilada dinner - both looked wonderful & according to the gals, tasted wonderful! The service was pretty speedy, the food hot & delicious - I would definitely go back whenever in the mood for some yummy Mexican while visiting Amelia Island!

Everytime I am on Amelia Island I make sure that this a dinner stop. Love the margarita's and Sangria. The upstairs dining was a little hot the last time I was there. Great service great food.

This place is great - we have brought countless friends and family here - and everyone always goes back - sadly sometimes without us. Try the boyah margarita.

There are very few times I've come away from a Mexican dinner and been really impressed. Those experiences always involve some exciting new chef, dinning experience, and a large bill. Pablo's is not that place. You won't find anything earth shattering about Pablo's. Its good Mexican food done fast. Their food is typical Mexican fare. I've had the fish fajitas and been happy with them (its all frozen sea food, but once under a broiler and loaded with hot sauce you can't really tell). Also I'll agree with the previous reviews that say their drinks are strong, just like we like em'. Make a stop by on Friday night for Salsa dancing night, and grab you're self a bit of tequila. Pablo's gets two stars for being a great spot for Mexican on the island but its not going to lure Vicente Fox over the border.

It's Thanksgiving and we are in Fernandina for the holiday so our first stop is Pablo's. We arrived for a late lunch and it was so good. My fav lunch item is not on the menu but all you have to do is ask for it - Quesadilla Tajes. Grilled chicken, shrimp and beef with a really creamy and decedent cheese sauce. Love it. We also had nachos al carbon. The steak was so flavorful and good. It's a meal in and of itself. Margaritas are a must. Just pick one; they are great. Will be back before the week is over because I have to have the homemade tamales and pork with green sauce. So good

This place is absolutely fantastic. The Margaritas are excellent and the food is outstanding. So far I've had the California Burrito, the New York Burrito, and the Tamale Dinner. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I've eaten at this place. Be sure to try the Top Shelf Guacamole if you go here.

My wife and I were visiting Fernandina Beach from St Augustine for the day. I needed some lunch. I'd never been to Pablos (open about a year according to the waiter), and a Mexican beer sounded good. We were seated quickly, offered an outside table on a low-80's day. We were the only ones out there for our entire meal. The waiter was excellent, suggesting a Margarita instead of a beer. Great choice. The drink was stronger than most, you could tell there was some Tequila in it. We got a half-pitcher which was about 2 drinks each. Our meals were great. I had the fish tacos. My wife had the chicken nachos. The fish was mild, could have been marinated a little longer or stronger. The chipotle sauce was tasty along with the shredded cabbage garnish. The wife's nachos had ample chicken, sour cream and guacamole. They were baked. The waiter suggested the seafood fajitas on our next stop. I think I will. This place is a solid recommendation.

Excellent top shelf margarita, fresh salsa and great service. Outdoor court yard allows you to enjoy food and the weather at the same time!

We are "frequent diners" at Pablo's. The owner Pablo always greets me with a hug. Food is consisently very good as well as the service. Margarita's are excellent! I love their Shrimp Salad , Shrimp Fajita's and the Chicken YMCA. My husband usually gets Chicken Fajita's. Great chips and salsa! Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Prices are very reasonable. Great atmosphere!

A good Mexican restaurant is had to find in SE Georgia/NE Florida. So, on the advice of friends, we choose Pablo's to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We hoped to beat the crowds and made a reservation for 5 pm and were pleased to find it busy but not crowed. We were seated and attended too right away - they seemed to made a special effort to have plenty of staff to keep service crisp. We enjoyed eating in the outside courtyard as it was decorated nicely for the CdM celebration. I ordered fish tacos and my wife shrimp fajitas. We appreciated having our beer accompanied with chilled glasses and the attention the servers gave everyone. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my fish tacos. They fell apart in my hands. It would have been much better if they had wrapped the fish in two tortillas instead of one. (Frankly, the fish tacos are much better, tastier at Pepper's). My wife, however, enjoyed her fajitas - plenty of large shrimp. I don't understand why restaurants don't provide more tortilla with their fajitas. They provided just 4 small tortillas, and when we asked for more we got 'em, but discovered a $2 charge for this on the bill. Over all it was a good experience and nice dinner. We love the service and atmosphere, however, the food ranges from fair to great.

nothing special. waited 20 minutes to order - margaritas were TERRIBLE, too sweet - from a store bought pre-made mix and no alcohol in them - I had three tall glasses and didn't even feel a bit of a buzz. my food was fine - nothing to complain about, nothing to praise. salsa fine, chips fine. Again nothing special. Outdoor seating could be great - however, the tables are so worn down, all chipped paint, it actually looked like a flock of seagulls had pooped all over them - doesn't add to

I give this place two stars because the quality of the food and service is only a tad bit better than a place called Peppers which is a few miles away, and is at least twice as expensive. I would take Peppers any day over Pablo's.

Today we went to the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach. We have gone to Pablo's several years at the end of an enjoyable day, and were looking forward to a good dinner this evening. We ordered a glass of white zen for a beverage, and were told that this restaurant does not carry white zen. I asked the host if he would double check, as I found this hard to believe. Our waiter overheard me ask the host to check on the availability of white zen, and our dinner rapidly went downhill from that point on. Our waiter got extremely upset that we had asked someone else about the wine, and gave us no service whatsoever. He brought no chips and salsa to our table until long after we ordered, did not ever come back to to see if we were in need of anything, and refused to speak or even acknowledge our presence. We notified the manager, who apparently chewed him out in Spanish, but did nothing about our lack of service nor offered any compensation on our bill. If it had not been for other servers passing our table, I imagine we would still be sitting waiting to eat. This to me was totally unacceptable-we will not go back.
